The Assistant Director of Student Engagement, House System assists in overseeing and coordinating the school's efforts to create and maintain a fully inclusive environment in student government, leadership, activities and events, clubs, and the House System. While being passionate about our Catholic, Marianist values, the Assistant Director of Student Engagement, House System must be energetic, dynamic, and have strong communication, leadership, collaborative, strategic, and organizational skills. The position will be a .6 FTE and require a teaching assignment of two classes (.4). The position is a 12 month position.
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement, House System will report to the Director of Student Engagement and will need to interact within and across departmental lines and be able to network and communicate among the constituents of Chaminade College Preparatory to oversee the following: House Leads; Advisory Mentors; and Student House Senate.
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement, House System is responsible for the following:
Assist in directing the Office of Student Engagement and its work:
- Contribute ideas and active leadership across all areas of the Office of Student Engagement, including student government, activities, events, clubs, and the House System, to support a cohesive student life experience.
- Participate in bi-monthly meetings with the Student Engagement Office to plan, assess, and execute robust programming in student government, activities, events, diversity, clubs, and the House System, advising on key questions related to strategy and practice.
- Provide collaborative and collegial leadership and exercise strong administrative and communication skills to supervise the House Leads and Advisory Mentors.
- Collaborate with campus administration to ensure House Leads and Advisory Mentors are supported and empowered to fulfill their responsibilities in the House System.
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Engagement and Assistant Director of Student Engagement to mentor Student Government (Commissioners and House Senate).
- Co-teach with the Director of Student Engagement and Assistant Director of Activities, a weekly class of student commissioner leaders and House Senate to ensure focused schoolwide planning and implementation of events, activities, and leadership development.
- Utilize technology and digital platforms as essential tools for communication, programming, event facilitation, and data management.
- Collect, analyze, and reflect on data to evaluate the effectiveness of House System programming, inform decision-making, and continuously improve the student life experience.
- Approach all interactions with students with a pastoral presence, remaining accessible, responsive, and committed to forming and serving the whole person.
Assist in managing the House System budget:
In collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement,
- Plan and maintain a sustainable budget to execute House System activities and events.
- Be responsible for the supervision and disbursement of funds.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Finance and Operations and Director of Student Engagement to ensure proper fiduciary responsibility of the House System budget.
Oversee the House Leads & Advisory Mentors:
In collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement,
- Ensure proper strategies and efforts are in place to manage and direct the House System in ways that promote and reflect our Catholic, Marianist tradition.
- Cultivate an environment of accountability, a spirit of excellence, and healthy competition across all Houses.

- 8 House Leads
- 165-170 members (students of all grade levels, faculty, and staff) per House.
- Student Advisory (Mentor Groups)- Each house comprises 6 Mentor Groups with 25-26 students of all grade levels and an assigned Advisory Mentor (faculty/staff member).
- Direct and lead meetings with House Leads, Advisory Mentors, and Student House Senate to plan, execute, and assess activities, events, contests, Mentor Groups, and leadership.
- Foster a culture of belonging and community within the House System, actively working to strengthen family spirit across all Houses.
- Cultivate partnerships with other departments and offices across campus to enrich House System programming and the broader student life experience.
- Collaborate with the Deans of Discipline to discern and elevate strategies for disciplinary improvement within the Houses.
- Provide ongoing coaching and leadership development opportunities for House Leads, Advisory Mentors, and Student Leaders.
- Lead the efforts with Campus Administration, House Leads, and Student House Senate to develop and sustain House identity, including names, crests, and branding.
- Lead the coordination of student placement into Houses and Mentor Groups, ensuring balanced and equitable distribution and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records across all relevant systems and platforms.
- Manage the House Cup, maintain an accurate log of House points, and oversee House rewards and incentives
Develop and manage Mentor Group curriculum and programming:
In collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement,
- Develop and manage a purposeful and varied Mentor Group curriculum grounded in clear educational and developmental goals and rooted in our Catholic, Marianist tradition.
- Collaborate with House Leads and other departments across campus in the development and implementation of Mentor Group programming.
- Create and distribute session materials and implementation guides to Advisory Mentors in advance of each session.
- Gather feedback from Advisory Mentors and students to assess and continuously improve Mentor Group programming.
