As COO of PWSIG, you would be responsible for mitigating the financial risk of the County’s workers’ compensation association and casualty pools utilizing a team of internal and 3rd party administrators, underwriters, accountants, claims specialists, insurance brokers, and actuaries. This position is responsible for the leadership, direction, governance, and innovation of risk & wellness services County-wide, inclusive of the Adult Detention Center (ADC is a separate legal entity), but excluding PWC Schools. Program responsibilities include environmental, safety (includes driver program), wellness, and self-insurance.
About This Role:
High visibility role leading the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs of Prince William County, Virginia, including Chairperson of the PWSIG Board of Trustees and working directly with the County leadership team while reporting through the Deputy Director of Finance to the Director of Finance/Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Serves as the subject matter expert underwriting county-wide risk management including, but not limited to, program design & execution, policy & budget (four distinct budgets) development, contract administration, compliance audits & reviews, continuous improvement, leased facilities insurance review and negotiation, and special events insurance requirements approval. Partners with internal and external attorneys during liability claim negotiations tasked with reviewing, recommending and approving settlements and 3rd party surveillance services.
Incumbent will apply and provide advanced management principles with critical impact on citizens and the organization, utilizing strategic and visionary thinking having both near-term and long-term organization-wide application and impact.
Develops and evaluates insurance, re-insurance and/or self-insurance programs to reduce or transfer risk (e.g. Property, Casualty, Crime, Workers’ Compensation, etc.). Develops and implements risk, safety, environmental, driver, and wellness programs critical to the County.
Incumbent will make executive-level decisions regarding PWSIG strategic planning, budget development (two pools), compliance audits, and risk & wellness personnel management while ensuring coverage for after-hours emergency situations in conjunction/collaboration with Public Safety.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 8 years of Enterprise Risk Management in the areas of safety, environmental, insurance, and/or wellness risk experience in a similar role with a large and functionally diverse organization.

Work Schedule:This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, exempt-paid position with a typical schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Occasional local travel may be required (divisional vehicles available). This is a telework-eligible role with some in-office requirements based upon business need. The position may change to in-office schedule if business needs change.
Starting Salary Range: $154,323.00 - $189,949.50/yr
