About the role

UChicago Career Advancement is seeking an Assistant Director, Careers in Finance to support students pursuing careers across finance and related fields. This person will play a key role in building employer relationships, sourcing opportunities, supporting finance-focused career programming, and advising students as they prepare for internships and full-time roles.

This is a high-impact role suited to someone with strong industry knowledge who excels at building professional relationships and operating effectively across employer engagement, student advising, events, and program operations. The role supports specialized finance-related initiatives and works across selective student cohorts.


What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, and other industry partners across finance and related sectors to expand student opportunities.
  • Identify and help source internships, full-time roles, site visits, job shadowing opportunities, and other forms of employer engagement.
  • Advise students interested in finance careers through one-on-one guidance, communication, and tactical support throughout the recruiting process.
  • Support finance-focused career programming, including employer events, workshops, networking programs, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Partner on the execution of selective career development programs and other strategic initiatives within the team.
  • Track student engagement, recruiting activity, and outcomes; support reporting, analytics, and program administration.
  • Contribute to communications and materials for employer partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the University professionally in interactions with employers, alumni, and external partners.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in finance, consulting, employer relations, recruiting, higher education, or another fast-paced professional environment.
  • Strong understanding of finance or business careers and recruiting, or the ability to ramp up quickly with credibility.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with students, employers, alumni, and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working across cross-functional teams and driving outcomes in a high-performance environment.

 

Preferred

  • Professional experience in finance, financial services, investing, banking, consulting, or a closely related field.
  • MBA or other advanced degree.
  • Familiarity with student-facing programs, employer engagement, or talent/recruiting initiatives.
