Position Summary

The Assistant Controller is a senior accounting leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operations of the accounting function and the management and development of the accounting team. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance & Accounting, this individual will serve as the operational backbone of our finance organization, ensuring the integrity of the general ledger, compliance with US GAAP, and accurate standard cost accounting in a manufacturing environment. This is a high-visibility role with significant growth potential for the right candidate.


Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Financial Reporting

• Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial

statements in accordance with US GAAP

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and

supporting schedules

• Prepare and review internal financial reports, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements for

management review

• Support external audit and tax preparation processes, serving as a primary point of contact for auditors

Standard Costing & Manufacturing Accounting

• Manage and maintain the standard cost system, including labor, overhead, and material cost standards

for all SKUs

• Perform variance analysis (purchase price, labor efficiency, overhead absorption) and communicate

findings to operations leadership

• Oversee inventory accounting, cycle count reconciliations, and physical inventory processes

• Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accurate cost data and drive continuous

improvement in costing accuracy


Team Leadership & Development

• Directly manage and mentor a team of accounting staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and

professional development support

• Assign work, set priorities, and monitor team performance to meet departmental deadlines

• Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the accounting team

Internal Controls & Compliance

• Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial

reporting accuracy

• Ensure compliance with all applicable US federal and Texas state regulations, including sales and use

tax, payroll tax, and other statutory requirements

• Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures documentation


Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with FP&A on budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis

• Collaborate with procurement, operations, and HR on cross-functional financial matters

• Support the VP of Finance & Accounting on special projects, system implementations, and strategic

initiatives


Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field

• Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team

lead role

• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and experience with standard costing in a manufacturing

environment

• Demonstrated ability to manage a full month-end close cycle independently and on schedule

• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Excel

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with competing priorities


Preferred Qualifications

• CPA license (active or inactive) strongly preferred

• Experience in a contract manufacturing, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or regulated manufacturing

environment

• Prior exposure to nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or tobacco/nicotine product compliance environments

• Experience with system implementations or ERP upgrades


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily performed in a standard office environment at our Plano, Texas headquarters. The role may occasionally require visits to manufacturing or warehouse areas where personal protective equipment may be required. The position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a computer workstation and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
