Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Director of Finance and Controller and plays a key role in supporting overall financial operations. This position is responsible for maintaining financial integrity, supporting core accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and reporting standards. The Assistant Controller partners closely with leadership to ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, including account reconciliations, analyses, and journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls; support the creation of accounting policies, procedures, and best practices; and assist with annual audit preparation.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and cost monitoring.
  • Oversee general ledger activities, payroll processing, and 401(k) administration.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior accounting staff.
  • Collaborate with Project Accounting to ensure accurate and timely accounts payable data impacting project costing.
  • Compile and review job cost data from timesheets to ensure accurate project cost allocation.
  • Assist with day-to-day administration of payroll and HRIS systems.
  • Supervise the preparation and filing of all payroll-related weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns, including Form W-2.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of annual IRS Form 1099 filings.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or MBA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction industry financial and general ledger accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting practices.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
