Job Title: Assistant Controller (Interim Consultant, Potential to Convert to Permanent)
Job Description

This Assistant Controller interim consulting role provides immediate, hands-on support during a high-volume audit cycle and an ERP data migration. You will help stabilize financial operations through a period of system transition, multiple concurrent statutory audits, and global coordination. The role requires a seasoned accounting professional who is audit-savvy, detail-oriented, and able to step in quickly, take direction, and execute. For the right person who demonstrates strong performance and alignment with long-term needs, there is potential for conversion into a permanent Assistant Controller position.

Responsibilities

  • Support 8–9 concurrent audits, including a US consolidated audit and multiple statutory audits across Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East.
  • Assist with first-year audits in Australia and the Middle East by helping local teams understand requirements, prepare documentation, and assemble complete audit packages.
  • Partner closely with leadership to stabilize a new ERP system, focusing on data migration, final tie-outs, and detailed reconciliation work.
  • Review prior-year audit workpapers and roll forward documentation, schedules, and supporting files to the current year.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and recommend and support corrective actions.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in foreign currency accounting, particularly related to data conversion and tie-outs, addressing a key area of complexity.
  • Support complex audits involving both US GAAP and IFRS, ensuring that financial statements and supporting documentation align with applicable standards.
  • Prepare and review financial reporting deliverables, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
  • Contribute to the month-end close process by preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and validating financial results.
  • Strengthen internal controls by supporting the design, documentation, and maintenance of a scalable financial control environment.
  • Collaborate with global finance teams, including a large UK-based team and other regional stakeholders, to coordinate audit and reporting activities.
  • Work independently with minimal oversight, acting as an additional set of hands to execute tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Support ongoing process improvements related to ERP implementation, financial reporting, and audit workflows.
  • Work closely with external auditors, prepare audit deliverables, and respond to audit requests in a timely and organized manner.
  • Assist with management reporting by providing accurate financial data, reconciliations, and analysis as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including audit or audit-adjacent roles.
  • Strong experience working with external auditors and preparing audit deliverables, including PVCs, audit schedules, and standard audit workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems, including financial data migration, data conversion tie-outs, and the ability to troubleshoot and reconcile system outputs.
  • Proficiency in US GAAP and experience supporting audits under US GAAP.
  • Experience with IFRS and complex audits involving both US GAAP and IFRS frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of foreign currency transactions and related accounting issues, particularly in the context of data conversion and reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and journal entry preparation.
  • Experience with financial reporting, month-end close processes, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and financial control environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with comfort collaborating across global teams.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or a CPA designation is preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting or leading ERP implementations, particularly around data migration and reconciliation, is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with large, complex, multi-entity or multinational audits.
  • Experience working with foreign subsidiaries and coordinating across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
  • Experience with management responsibilities, such as guiding or mentoring team members, is preferable.
  • Proven ability to support process improvement initiatives and contribute to building scalable financial systems and controls.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Comfort working in a consulting or interim capacity, stepping into an in-flight environment and adding value quickly.
  • Interest in and openness to transitioning from an interim consulting role into a potential permanent Assistant Controller position, depending on mutual fit.
