Assistant Community Supervision Officer, C.S.C.D

The Assistant Community Supervision Officer (Assistant CSO) is responsible for the effective management and oversight of offenders placed on the Pre-Trial Diversion Program. This includes ensuring that case supervision is carried out in accordance with TDCJ-CJAD (Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Community Justice Assistance Division) standards and in alignment with the vision and objectives set forth by the Director of the Webb & Zapata County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (WZCSCD).
  • Must be able to manage the Pre-Trial Diversion caseload while ensuring full adherence to all CJAD standards, Webb & Zapata County policies, and Court requirements.
  • Supervise probationers who are not on direct supervision, including indirect cases, pre-trial diversion cases, and unsupervised cases, in accordance with court orders.
  • Provide probationers with structure, discipline, and guidance to help them identify, understand, and address their issues using effective counseling techniques and fully utilizing available community supervision programs.
  • Ensure that probationers fulfill their financial obligations to victims, program fees, and other court-ordered payments, complete community service restitution hours as mandated by the court, and work toward becoming responsible citizens by maintaining steady employment and taking accountability for their actions.
  • Accurately record all official proceedings, summaries of conferences, and actions taken using the appropriate forms.
  • Effectively communicate with hostile, abusive, or irrational individuals while maintaining professionalism and respect.
  • Consult with the respective supervisor when recommending discharge from the program due to the defendant’s failure or inability to comply with court-ordered conditions, and when the defendant poses a potential threat to public safety.
  • File the proper documents in a timely manner for any case with the District Attorney’s Office and other respective agencies, and provide follow-up and courtroom testimony when required.
  • Carry out any additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or members of the Management Team.
  • Contribute to the team by performing related duties as assigned and establishing positive working relationships with co-workers, County employees, and the general public.
  • Represent the CSCD positively within the community and consistently uphold a high standard of professionalism.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to interpret business and technical materials, write clear reports, and present information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic, including rates, ratios, percentages, and interpreting bar graphs.
  • Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting a variety of instructions in different formats.
  • Able to effectively interact with diverse individuals and demonstrate alignment with the Department's mission and goals.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, with a focus in criminal justice, criminology, counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, corrections, law enforcement, pre-law, or a related human services field.
  • If the degree is not in one of the specified fields, the applicant must have either one ( 1 ) year of graduate study in one of these areas or one ( 1 ) year of full-time experience in casework, counseling, or community/group work.
  • Applicants possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, have reliable transportation, and provide proof of liability insurance.
  • Must not be employed as a peace officer.
  • Must not be currently on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense.

  • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
  • This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
