Assistant Coach-Women's Soccer

Job Overview

Serves as the lead assistant coach for the women’s soccer team and serves on the Chrouser Sports Complex Facilities Team.  This position reports to the Head Women’s Soccer Coach. This person will operate with a committed understanding that in the pursuit of athletic excellence, we seek to develop students for Christian life and service. This is a full-time position and pays $53,000-$56,000 annually.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coaching Leadership
    1. Assist the head coach in managing and supporting all aspects of the women’s soccer program
    2. Comply with the mission and vision of Wheaton College; adhere to all College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and NCAA rules and regulations
    3. Monitor team standards 
    4. Plan and execute practice with head coach
    5. Execute practice plans when the head coach is absent 
    6. Assist in the development all off-season and holiday break training programs
    7. Provide feedback and skill instruction to individuals and team
  2. Spiritual Leadership
    1. Provide leadership and discipleship to current student-athletes
    2. Help manage logistics of every three-four year team ministry trips—negotiate and purchase air fare, complete the Wheaton College paperwork for the Global and Experiential Learning Office, coordinate with student health services, write fundraising letters, track the fundraising, etc.
    3. Seek intentional discipleship—encourage and correct players on and off the soccer field
    4. Be a consistent role model and resource for players in their own spiritual development
    5. Lead occasional team devotionals
    6. Provide leadership with captains who organize player-led discipleship small groups
  3. Administrative Leadership
    1. Assist with the development and execute strategy for all women’s soccer student-athlete recruitment; Assist the head coach in all aspects related to recruiting, selecting, and retaining a minimum of 20-25 team members that reflect the profile of Wheaton College students
    2. Review initial prospect list and identify athletes to pursue
    3. Assess talent through scouting visits to high school games, tournaments and camps
    4. Establish relationship with prospect and family
    5. Coordinate campus visits/recruiting days
    6. Secure travel arrangements—negotiating air fare, hotels, rental vehicles, and food for away games
    7. Supervise team manager if applicable

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; 
  • 3-5 years collegiate playing experience; 
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes on and off of the soccer field; 
  • Excellent communication skills; 
  • A commitment to the values of NCAA Division III athletics and Christ-centered education; 
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Competency in MSOffice computer programs

Physical Requirements

The person in this position must be able to drive/transport athletes; set up and take down soccer equipment; and the ability to lift, move, and carry up to 25lbs.
