McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track faculty position in the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine, Texas Therapeutics Institute. The selected candidate will contribute to educating health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in research, teaching, administrative activities, and other services.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The faculty in IMM Texas Therapeutics Institute (TTI) will be expected to play a key role in strengthening an academic drug discovery center with a focus on natural product drug discovery, including but not limited to bioactive natural product isolation, total synthesis of natural products, biosynthetic pathway analysis, biocombinatorial chemistry, and heterologous expression.

  • Developing and sustaining an environment in research that supports excellence and innovation through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and standards that support positive patient care outcomes, including excellent risk-adjusted outcomes.
  • Performing a variety of staff management functions, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, and terminating assigned management, clinical, and support staff.
  • Facilitating, reviewing, and approving the budget for UTHealth Houston, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs; ensuring that resources are optimally utilized through participation in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, and development of practices that achieve specific objectives and resolution of unfavorable performance variances; providing leadership and implementing strategies to provide quality outcomes.
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, support, and consultation to research personnel, colleagues, and staff.
  • Serving as a role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills
  • Identifying needs; recommending and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age-specific equipment, supplies, and educational resources are available for assigned units/services.
  • Collaborating with UTHealth Houston and the administration to identify future opportunities and define the direction of department services, developing and implementing plans to achieve identified goals.
  • Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan and process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing and implementing unit-specific standards, policies, and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assessing and improving assigned departments' performance while enhancing service.
  • Reviewing financial reports and implementing cost-reduction strategies for supplies, staffing, and service agreements at UTHealth Houston and MHH, including alternative sourcing options.
  • Participating in and/or chairing committees, work groups, and meetings as appropriate.
  • Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained, and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent clinical services.

Qualifications:

The selected candidate for the position must have a PhD or equivalent degree.

In addition, TTI has established world-leading expertise and technologies in antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) research, particularly in advanced linker chemistry platforms that enable precise antibody conjugation.
