We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Intern within the DuPage County Information Technology Department. This intern will work directly with the AI Committee co-chairs to support the County’s responsible AI adoption efforts, including use case discovery, tool evaluation, pilot coordination, and governance activities. This is a summer internship position.

This position is eligible for Paid Leave hours at a proportional rate based on the number of hours regularly scheduled to work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Projects will include:
•Collaborating with AI Committee co-chairs to identify, document, and prioritize AI use cases across County departments
•Assisting with the evaluation and testing of AI tools, including chatbots, AI agents, and productivity assistants, and documenting findings and recommendations
•Supporting the coordination of AI pilot programs, including tracking milestones, gathering feedback from participants, and preparing status summaries
•Assisting with planning and logistics for AI Committee meetings, including agenda preparation, meeting minutes, and follow-up action tracking
•Helping coordinate AI-related special events such as demonstrations, lunch-and-learns, and vendor presentations
•Researching emerging AI technologies, government AI adoption trends, and regulatory developments relevant to local government operations
•Assisting in maintaining the County’s AI use case registry and supporting documentation for the Responsible AI Governance program
•Contributing to the development of AI awareness materials, internal communications, and training resources for County staff
•Supporting data collection and analysis to assess the effectiveness of AI pilots and tools in use
•Partnering with the Applications team to pilot AI-assisted coding tools, evaluate developer productivity impacts, and document findings for broader adoption considerationRequires the applicant to be actively taking undergraduate or graduate level courses at an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Coursework or demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, or technology policy is preferred.

Preferred qualifications include:

- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and exposure to AI tools or platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar)

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical concepts for a non-technical audience

- Organizational skills and ability to coordinate across multiple workstreams and stakeholders

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)

- Analytical mindset with the ability to gather, synthesize, and present information clearly

- Interest in public sector technology, government innovation, or AI policy
