SCHEDULE: 2026-27 School Year – Full-time
WAGE: $57,201 - $95,492* (Starting wage dependent on education and experience)
*NCSOTA Certificated Salary Schedule Step 1, Class II - Step 20, Class V 25/26

SUMMARY: The Art Teacher designs and facilitates an arts-integrated program that supports students in using visual arts as a tool for learning, expression, and connection across subjects. This role nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and student voice by integrating visual arts with core academic content while fostering artistic skills and aesthetic awareness in alignment with the school's educational philosophy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Arts-Integrated Instruction & Curriculum
- Design and implement visual arts lessons that intentionally connect with core subjects (e.g., ELA, Social Studies, Science, Math)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-plan and align arts-integrated units and projects
- Support students in using art to explore, demonstrate, and deepen understanding of academic content
- Teach foundational artistic skills, techniques, and concepts within meaningful, cross-disciplinary contexts
- Provide opportunities for student choice, voice, and personal connection within projects
- Differentiate instruction using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies to ensure access for all learners
Classroom Environment & Culture
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and creative environment where students feel safe to take artistic risks
- Use developmentally appropriate and restorative practices to support engagement and accountability
- Maintain a culturally responsive classroom that reflects diverse perspectives and artistic traditions
- Prepare materials and learning spaces that invite exploration and collaboration
Assessment & Student Growth
- Assess both artistic skill development and student understanding of integrated academic content
- Use a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies, including project-based and portfolio assessments
- Provide clear, supportive feedback that guides student reflection and growth
- Communicate student progress with families through reports, conferences, and ongoing updates
Collaboration & Community Engagement
- Work closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and support staff to design meaningful integrated learning experiences
- Partner with Special Education staff to ensure equitable access and participation for all students
- Contribute to school-wide events, exhibitions, and performances that showcase integrated student work
- Support field trips, visiting artists, and community partnerships that enrich arts learning
Materials & Program Development
- Manage and maintain art materials and shared resources responsibly
- Research and recommend materials that support integrated and project-based learning
- Support the display and documentation of student work that reflects both artistic and academic learning
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in collaborative planning, staff meetings, and professional development
- Engage in ongoing learning related to arts integration, UDL, equity, and culturally responsive teaching
- Develop a Professional Development Plan in collaboration with the School Director during evaluation cycles
- Maintain clear communication with colleagues, families, and the school community
- Arrange for substitute coverage when needed and provide clear lesson plans
- Attend required school events and fulfill assigned responsibilities
- Follow all school policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSURE
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Valid California Visual Arts Teaching Credential
- CLAD certification or equivalent
- Knowledge of California Visual Arts Standards and arts integration practices
- Experience with project-based or interdisciplinary learning (preferred)
- Training or experience in UDL, DEI, and culturally responsive teaching (encouraged)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
(Required prior to or shortly after employment)
- Fingerprint and background clearance
- Valid Tuberculosis clearance (updated every four years)
- CPR/First Aid Certification within 45 days of employment (renewed every two years)
- Completion of required trainings within 6 weeks of employment and annually thereafter
