Coordinate and monitor aquatics program activities including the operation and maintenance of an assigned pool and hiring of aquatic instructors and life guards; implement program goals and objectives and perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  1. Coordinate and monitor aquatics program activities including the operation and maintenance of an assigned pool and hiring of aquatic instructors, lifeguards and other pool staff.
  2. Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing aquatic program services; implement policies and procedures.
  3. Monitor program performance; recommend and implement modifications to systems and procedures.
  4. Coordinate swimming lesson programs and swim team activities; hire and train lifeguards in proper water safety techniques.
  5. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of pool facilities; maintain water chemistry with Environmental Health standards.
  6. Monitor and inspect pool facilities; schedule maintenance including cleaning, sweeping and vacuuming of pool; clean filters.
  7. Maintain records and develop reports concerning pool maintenance activities and water chemistry monitoring.
  8. Coordinate hiring and proper training of aquatic instructors including Lifeguard, AED (automated external defibrillators), C.P.R. and first aid training; maintain instructor certificates.
  9. Promote and coordinate specific activities within the assigned aquatics program; prepare marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.
  10. Schedule usage of pool facilities for activities including swimming lessons, public access and swim meets; provide information and assistance to users of facilities.
  11. Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures, compile payroll reports and make purchases in accordance with City of Albuquerque procedures.
  12. Monitor program compliance with laws, rules and regulations related to provision of aquatic programs and related services.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of aquatic programs; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
  2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration or physical education or a related field;and

Four (4) years of aquatics program experience; and

To include one (1) year lead or supervisory experience.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid C.P.R./AED for the Professional Rescuer or lifeguards.

Possession of a valid First Aid certificate.

Possession of a valid Lifeguard certificate.

Possession of a valid Lifeguard Instructor certificate.

Possession of a valid Pool Operators License within six (6) months from date of hire.

Environmental:
Pool environment; exposure to heat, potentially hazardous chemicals, inclement weather conditions; work in or with water; work on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; swimming; bending, stooping, kneeling and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
