This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

HOURS OF WORK: Position may vary in work schedules from Monday through Sunday between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Under the general direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Assistant Aquatic Manager trains and leads lifeguards and the program and operation of the Municipality of Achorage aquatic facilities including all pools and waterfront lakes. As the principal lead, this position is required to oversee the safety of all persons utilizing the aquatic venue. Lifeguard programs; instruct all levels of water safety and first aid classes; maintain and monitor pool filtration and chemical feed systems; clean facilities, operate equipment and perform minor repairs; cashier, fill out forms, generate reports and maintain facility records as assigned. On an as needed basis, this position will be assigned to the various aquatic facility as directed by the Aquaitic Superintendent or designee.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three(3)years of experience in facilitation of a recreational program.

OR

Associates degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related discipline and one(1) year of experience in facilitation of a recreational program.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related disciplineand experience in facilitation of a recreational program.

All applicants must possess and/or complete:

· American Red Cross First Aid Certification (age appropriate) at time of hire.

· American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) age appropriate at time of hire.

· Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.


If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications or the equivalent.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.


Military Service Interview Preference

Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
