Under supervision, learns and performs electrical line construction, maintenance and repair.
- Assists in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground by climbing poles, working from aerial lift devices, and performing necessary tasks on the ground;
- Assists in restoring overhead and underground outages;
- Assists in performing line patrol;
- Assists with the installation of transformers, switches, reclosers, capacitors, meters and other electrical apparatus;
- Digs poles and anchor holes, frames and sets poles and anchors, installs guy wires, sags, and ties in conductors;
- Installs service. Connects, disconnects, and reconnects as assigned;
- Assists with streetlight installation and maintenance;
- Repairs and replaces service drops as required;
- Reads, changes, installs, and seals meters as assigned;
- Becomes familiar with the electric distribution system feeds and circuits;
- Trims trees and cuts brush on right of way as assigned;
- Completes required training curriculum and on-the-job (OJT) training tasks in a timely manner and under the supervision of a foreman, higher-classified employees, and LP&L’s Apprentice Training Committee;
- Operates equipment as needed;
- Requires overseeing the safe work practices of employees of lower classification assigned to work with this position;
- Perform on-call duty as required;
- Responsible for following all safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as required.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a high school diploma with an additional one year of experience as a helper on a power line construction and maintenance crew or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Physical Exam Required
Valid Current Class A Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire.
Preferred qualifications:- Basic courses in lineman school and electricity are desirable;
Applicants seeking credit for previous experience must submit the request and supply supporting documentation at the time of application.
Knowledge of:- Electrical Codes;
- Precautions to be taken in working with high voltage lines.
Ability to:- Ability to service electrical power lines.
Physical Requirements:- Frequently climb ladders, stairs, poles, or inclined surfaces;
- Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift;
- Frequently pull wires towards oneself;
- Rotate trunk to the right or left from a sitting or standing position;
- Continuously lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds;
- Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds;
- Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to drive a vehicle and operate a bucket truck.
