Job Overview

Applications Engineer at Cortex Process Equipment is responsible for the selection, sizing, design and estimation of products from the proposal state, contract award through design. Directs and coordinates all activities of engineering and design of products to ensure that the finished product meets the customer expectations at the best quality possible while meeting project time frame and budget parameters.


Job Responsibilities

  • Familiar with Oil and Gas equipment design codes and regulations related to structural, piping, vessel and I&E design
  • Provide technical support for the business units plans and strategies
  • Attend design review, production and other meetings as required
  • Assist the Applications team with product development and project support
  • Provide process calculations for sizing equipment and defining details for estimation (utilize compress, Promax or any other software required to properly design equipment to meet ASME Code and other requirements)
  • Redline drawings, create instrument and valve list and work with purchasing on selection of any buyouts
  • Work with Applications and Product Team to develop new products and/or improve products to meet customer expectations
  • Selection of instruments, valves and all accessories including major buyouts
  • Understand and work with preferred suppliers of other process equipment under distributorship programs
  • Participate in vendor inspections when necessary
  • Check engineering drawings, parts list and bill of materials for accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze products and designs for cost reductions, design improvements and quality enhancements
  • Communicate with other engineers to provide technical assistance
  • Serve as engineering representative in production meetings when required
  • Assist sales department with proposals development and client interaction
  • Serve as caretaker of existing Intellectual Process Property (IPP)
  • Support evaluation of vendor quotations for technical acceptability
  • Visit and provide clients with ideas in discussions on current projects, including progress meetings, HAZOOP, kickoff/sales meetings when required
  • Create and review engineering calculations related to equipment, instrumentation and controls that validate design decisions and cost estimates
  • Mentor and train sales and service personnel in process equipment design, operation and start up
  • Participate in production planning and project reviews as required
  • Assist with cost estimating and proposals
  • Evaluate and maintain usage of in-house software particularly related to engineering
  • Travel when required (average 10% of time allotted for travel with exceptions only when necessary)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • 3+ years of experience in petroleum separation processes and various gas processing plants
  • 5+ years in the Oil & Gas industry with experience in process systems, packages, and modules
