Manager of Applications - Human Capital Management (HCM) – WORKDAY

  • Location – Worcester MA
  • Remote, with capabilities to attend critical, project related, or quarterly meetings on site
  • Salary Range: $150,000 – $190,000
  • Final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity
  • Potential sign‑on bonus may be available

Our client operates in the healthcare space. Experience in healthcare is a strong plus but not required.

The Manager, Applications Human Capital Management (HCM) is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, delivery, optimization, and ongoing support of the organization’s Human Capital Management application portfolio, with a strong emphasis on Workday. This position serves as both a people leader and technical owner, partnering closely with Human Resources leadership, Information Services, and enterprise stakeholders.

The role combines deep HCM application expertise with team leadership, governance, and enterprise application management in a large, complex organizational environment.

Required -

  • Strong Workday HCM experience, including configuration, implementation, governance, or ongoing support
  • Proven experience managing and developing technical or applications teams
  • Experience owning enterprise application portfolios, including roadmaps, upgrades, and lifecycle planning
  • Solid understanding of HR processes, including talent management, workforce administration, and employee experience
  • Experience working with large enterprise platforms (ERP / HCM)
  • Project and vendor management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience


Essential Responsibilities

Application Strategy & Ownership

  • Serve as the primary owner of the HCM application portfolio, with a strong focus on Workday
  • Define and maintain application roadmaps, upgrade strategies, and lifecycle plans
  • Provide governance over configuration, enhancements, integrations, and release management
  • Ensure systems align with evolving HR business needs and organizational priorities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop an HCM applications team
  • Set priorities, manage capacity, and ensure effective delivery of services and initiatives
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Act as a strategic partner to HR Operations and senior business leaders
  • Translate HR strategies and operational requirements into system capabilities
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders

HR Process Enablement

  • Support and optimize systems across key HR domains, including:
  • Talent Management
  • Workforce Administration
  • Employee Experience
  • Drive improvements that enhance usability, efficiency, and data integrity

Project, Vendor, and Change Management

  • Lead or support enterprise initiatives related to HCM systems
  • Manage relationships with vendors and implementation partners
  • Provide oversight for change management efforts across large user populations

Compliance & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure applications meet security, regulatory, and operational standards
  • Support audit readiness and compliance requirements as applicable
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and user satisfaction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workday certification
  • Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated industries
  • Experience with Epic or other enterprise applications
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or formal process improvement training
  • Demonstrated experience with change management initiatives at scale
  • Experience operating in hybrid or matrixed organizational structures
