API Developer

This position focuses on building shared engineering capabilities that help internal teams create and manage APIs efficiently and reliably. The work centers on internal platforms, automation, and tooling that improve consistency, quality, and developer workflows across the organization.

• Develop and maintain shared engineering services and internal tools that support API development at scale.
• Create systems that automate API standards, quality checks, and documentation.
• Build solutions that generate and manage client integrations and supporting developer resources.
• Promote and support specification‑driven API development using OpenAPI.
• Break complex initiatives into clear, manageable units of work and deliver them end‑to‑end.
• Work closely with multiple engineering groups, architecture partners, and platform teams to deliver cross‑org solutions.
• Identify gaps in current processes and lead improvements that raise engineering quality and efficiency.
• Communicate design decisions and technical concepts clearly to a wide range of audiences.

• Extensive experience designing and building software systems in a production environment.
• Strong experience working with APIs, including standards, lifecycle management, and governance.
• Hands‑on experience with OpenAPI and REST‑based integrations.
• Strong working knowledge of Java and/or Node.js with TypeScript.
• Experience building internal tools, developer platforms, or enablement solutions.
• History of delivering reusable engineering assets such as SDKs, validation tools, or shared frameworks.
• Ability to work independently within large, complex environments.

This is a Contract position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
