The Animal Care Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of animals at the shelter. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the feeding, care, and treatment of animals, including administering medications to the sick and injured. The technician will perform intake procedures, such as recording animal data, administering vaccinations, and conducting preliminary health assessments. This role involves hands-on work, including cleaning animal holding areas, preparing food, and ensuring a safe environment for both animals and shelter staff. Public interaction is also a key aspect, as the technician will assist individuals in locating lost pets or adopting new animals. The role requires handling sick, injured, or aggressive animals and performing humane euthanasia when necessary, adhering to city policies and procedures

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate for the Animal Care Technician position is someone with a compassionate heart and a genuine love for animals. They should possess practical knowledge of animal care practices, including safe handling, feeding, and medication techniques. Familiarity with state, county, and local laws regarding animal control and protection is essential. The candidate should be adept at handling animals of various sizes and temperaments, with the ability to perform tasks confidently and safely. Strong communication skills are vital for interacting with the public and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will be able to follow detailed instructions, use sound judgment in various situations, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. A background in animal behavior, disease prevention, and microchip implantation techniques is a plus. This position requires physical stamina and the willingness to perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a clean and safe environment for all shelter inhabitants.
MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSAtypical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, and one year of work experience that included working with animals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to pass a breed identification and symptoms of disease test within one year of employment.WHO WE ARE
