Position: Analytical Chemist

Lightwave Logic: (Nasdaq: LWLG) is a publicly traded materials and device development company that is conducting cutting-edge work to commercialize its proprietary organic nonlinear polymers for a variety of electro-optic devices and pushing the state of the art in high-speed fiber-optic telecom and data communications. Our development roadmap is geared to disrupt the industry by introducing organic modulators and related photonic integrated circuits that have superior speed, lower power consumption, and smaller size than current technologies. Our materials and devices are extendable into other applications, including sensors and instrumentation.


Overview


We are seeking an Analytical Chemist to join our team in Englewood, CO. The analytical chemist will be responsible for the design, development, verification, qualification, and/or validation of analytical methods (in-process and finished products) that meet stringent regulatory guidelines. This role requires a deep technical understanding of instrumental analysis, primarily GC/FID/MS and LC/UV/MS, with experience in DSC and TGA considered a bonus


Responsibilities


  • Design and execute robust analytical methods for the identification, purity, and potency testing of in-process and finished products.
  • Optimize existing methods to improve sensitivity, accuracy, and throughput.
  • Troubleshoot complex analytical issues and provide technical solutions for challenging matrices.
  • Draft verification, qualification, and/or validation protocols (including linearity, precision, accuracy, and LOD/LOQ) in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Execute verification, qualification, and/or validation experiments and author comprehensive reports for regulatory submission.
  • Lead in the transfer of methods to Quality Control (QC) laboratories or external Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
  • Perform routine and non-routine analysis of in-process samples and finished products.
  • Maintain meticulous laboratory notebooks and electronic data records in compliance with ALCOA++ data integrity principles.
  • Conduct peer reviews of raw data and technical reports to ensure scientific "soundness" and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) and laboratory investigations regarding Out of Specification (OOS) results.
  • Ability to work second shift, when needed.
  • Remain current on relevant scientific literature.
  • Maintain a collaborative work environment with colleagues in wide-ranging roles within the company; use this collaboration to advance the goals of the company and enhance the output of the chemistry team.
  • Support the company’s IP portfolio by proposing and reviewing patent applications.
  • Exhibit safety awareness, safe work practices, and common laboratory hygiene and ensure that all members of the chemistry team abide by the safety policies of the company.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.



Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related science field.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in analytical chemistry, specifically method development and verification, qualification, and validation activities
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and validating methods (experience in GC and LC is required)
  • Hands-on experience with Wet Chemistry techniques (titration, pH, dissolution).
  • Working knowledge of regulatory guidance.
  • Exceptional analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex scientific data to cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to conduct literature searches for specific target molecules and reactions; ability to use the literature to design efficient synthetic routes, as well as troubleshoot problematic reactions.
  • Thorough understanding of modern analytical and spectroscopic techniques and ability to interpret the corresponding data and spectra.
  • Quality-first mindset, which leads to the production of highly pure final products.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, as well as work across and within groups to support the goals of the company.
  • Ability to organize work efficiently, carry out multiple operations in parallel, and successfully complete projects in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
