AMI Analyst (St. Croix)

:Under the general supervision of the AMI Operations Manager, the AMI Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and validating the performance and data quality of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, including Compass MDMS, UIQ, and related reporting tools. The Analyst evaluates meter data, identifies communication issues, works with internal IT staff and external vendors, and ensures the accuracy and reliability of AMI data used for billing, customer service, and operational decision-making.

Because the Authority has a primary responsibility to serve the public 24 hours a day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and may be expected to accept overtime on short notice during emergency conditions or power outages.

AMI Data Monitoring & Analysis

  • Monitors Compass MDMS exceptions, alerts, and daily/weekly/monthly performance reports for anomalies or data integrity issues.
  • Performs root-cause analysis for meter data failures, missing reads, communication gaps, and integration errors.
  • Identifies MDMS or UIQ system problems and escalates issues to IT, vendors, or the AMI Operations Manager as required.
  • Create reports from AMI system using queries and other reporting tools.
  • Provide support to end users for AMI systems

System Performance & Reporting

  • Prepares detailed reports on AMI read performance, exception trends, validation statistics, and system reliability.
  • Tracks and documents recurring issues and supports long-term remediation strategies.
  • Reviews operational dashboards and proactively identifies developing problems within the AMI ecosystem.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Works with VIWAPA IT staff to evaluate AMI system performance, integration issues, and required improvements.
  • Supports collaboration with Customer Service, Billing, Engineering, and Operations to ensure accurate meter data and timely issue resolution.
  • Assists in communicating system updates, outages, or data corrections to internal stakeholders.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Supports monitoring of the AMI meter test farm, ensuring that devices are communicating and producing valid data.
  • Participates in firmware testing, system upgrades, and configuration changes by validating results and documenting findings.
  • Executes test cases for new features, patches, and releases in Compass and UIQ.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintains detailed documentation of processes, operational procedures, troubleshooting steps, and system changes.
  • Supports compliance with data quality standards, audit requirements, and internal control procedures.
  • Ensures confidentiality and security of customer data and system information.


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and identify patterns or system failures.
  • Working knowledge of AMI technologies, meter communication systems, and data management concepts.
  • Proficiency with reporting tools, spreadsheets, and data validation processes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both writing and speech.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions, meet deadlines, and work independently or in a team.
  • High degree of initiative, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.

Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in information systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, minimum of three (3) years of experience in data analysis, IT systems, utility operations, metering, or similar technical environments. Experience with AMI systems, MDMS platforms, or networked utility systems preferred.
