TheAirport Maintenance Workerwill perform a variety of operations, maintenance, inspections and repair functions specifically related to general maintenance of buildings, hangars, facilities, grounds, taxi-ways, runways, lighting systems, and related equipment. This does NOT include maintenance of aircraft or aircraft support equipment.

As an Airport Maintenance Workeryou will:

  • Perform daily runway and taxiway inspections for light outages, malfunctions, and foreign object debris.
  • Perform mowing and rough-cut of all Airport land.
  • Perform pavement, building, equipment, plumbing, paint, and electrical repairs as needed.
  • Perform custodial duties in the terminal and all airport facilities as required.
  • Patrol the Airport property for FOD, litter, and debris.
  • Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Field Supervisor or Director of Aviation.
  • Assiststhe Airport Maintenance Coordinator and the Airport Field Supervisor with the maintenance and execution of the Airport Maintenance Division Training Program. This includes delivery of training lectures and materials.
  • Assist the Safety Management System Manager with collection, evaluation, and mitigation of Hazard Reports submitted through the SMS program. Consistently promotes a proactive safety conscious culture. Enthusiastically participates in the Safety Management System.

Airport Maintenance Worker I: $22.24 - $25.58 per hour

Formal Education:

  • High school graduate, GED or equivalent.

Relatable Work Experience:

  • One year of experience as an Airport Maintenance Worker Trainee with the City of Sugar Land or two years of relatable maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with fixed based operations and previous airport experience is preferred.
  • Experience with zero turn mowers, agricultural equipment, tractors, cutters, sprayers and other equipment is a plus.

Training (License and/or Certification):

  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License
  • Recommended - AMW I’s should successfully complete the American Association of Airport Executives, Airport Certified Employee (ACE) Safety Management Systems (SMS) course.

Airport Maintenance Worker II: $22.53 - $28.22 per hour

Formal Education:

  • High school graduate, GED or equivalent.

Relatable Work Experience:

  • Two years’ experience as an Airport Maintenance Worker I with the City of Sugar Land or four years of relatable maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with fixed based operations and previous airport experience is preferred.
  • Experience with zero turn mowers, agricultural equipment, tractors, cutters, sprayers and other equipment is a plus.

Training (License and/or Certification):

  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License
  • AMW II’s must successfully complete the American Association of Airport Executives, Airport Certified Employee (ACE) Safety Management Systems (SMS) course.
  • Additional courses are recommended:
  1. Successful completion of American Association of Airport Executives, Airport Certified Employee (ACE) Airfield Lighting Maintenance course.
  2. Successful completion of American Association of Airport Executives, Airport Construction Management Workshop
  3. Successful completion of American Association of Airport Executives, Airport Pavement Maintenance and Evaluation Workshop
  4. Successful completion of Airfield Marking Professional Certificate Program
  5. Alternate course and certification relevant to continuity of safe airport operations and maintenance as approved by the Director of Aviation
