MajorDuties

  • As an AIRCRAFT PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC (Title 32), WG-8268-10, you will serve within a fuel systems shop responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of aircraft fuel cells, water injection, antidetonant (ADI), and inflight refueling systems. You will utilize extensive knowledge of fuel systems maintenance practices and procedures to troubleshoot fuel system malfunctions, determine the extent and type of preventive and/or repair maintenance required, and perform all necessary repairs, installations, and operational checks. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform organizational and intermediate maintenance on aircraft fuel systems, components, and equipment such as fuel cells, drop tanks, pumps, regulators, relief valves, and related accessories. Perform installation, repair, and operational checks on inflight refueling systems, single-point refueling systems, and fuel transfer components. Repair, reassemble, and install fuel system components and verify proper operation using bench test equipment and related test devices. Perform maintenance activities required by Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) for aircraft fuel systems and inflight refueling systems. Perform tasks related to additional support functions such as structural firefighting, munitions handling, heavy equipment operation, or facility maintenance when required. Perform visual and dye-trace leak checks to identify fuel system leaks and determine the condition of fuel cell sealant. Determine feasibility of repairing or replacing faulty fuel components and determine when unsatisfactory equipment reports are required. Perform precise disassembly, cleaning, examination, and overhaul of fuel accessories to identify corrosion, scratches, cracks, or damage. Replace gaskets, seals, and worn parts to restore functionality of pneudraulic fuel system accessories in accordance with technical standards. Adjust fuel accessories following reassembly to ensure proper operation and compliance with technical data requirements. Connect power sources and use cockpit gauges, controls, and precision test instruments to perform functional checks of refueling and fuel transfer systems. Use test equipment such as pressure testers, flow meters, leak detectors, or bench-test rigs to confirm serviceability of fuel system components. Use additional diagnostic instrumentation to verify operational status of pumps, valves, switches, selectors, and control devices. Use calibrated measuring devices to examine component wear, alignment, and operational tolerances during inspection and overhaul procedures. Utilize electrical wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and technical publications to determine the extent and type of maintenance required. Interpret TCTOs, functional check procedures, and compliance requirements to perform applicable fuel system maintenance actions. Use technical data, maintenance manuals, system schematics, and illustrated parts breakdowns to support troubleshooting and component overhaul. Interpret instructions and safety standards governing entry into fuel cell repair areas and fuel systems maintenance procedures. Use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and specialized equipment to perform maintenance on pneudraulic and fuel system components. Maintain test benches, leak-check equipment, and diagnostic instruments required for repair and overhaul operations. Use safety equipment, protective gear, and repair-area control procedures when performing fuel cell entry or hazardous maintenance. Maintain tools and equipment in serviceable condition and ensure proper calibration and handling when performing precise repairs. Troubleshoot fuel system malfunctions using wiring diagrams, schematics, cockpit controls, gauges, and diagnostic instruments. Determine the cause of faulty fuel system operation, identify defective components, and decide whether repair or replacement is appropriate. Diagnose issues within inflight refueling, single-point refueling, and fuel transfer systems and identify required corrective actions. Diagnose malfunctions in fuel accessories by disassembling, cleaning, and examining parts to identify defects such as corrosion or cracks. Determine corrective measures to restore system operation and ensure compliance with technical standards and inspection criteria.

Education

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
