A bit about us:
Our client is a privately held, vertically integrated advanced manufacturing company headquartered in the greater Charlotte, North Carolina metro area. Founded on the conviction that American manufacturing is due for a fundamental reinvention, this company has grown from a bold startup into a recognized leader in hybrid metal manufacturing, combining laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing with precision multi-axis CNC machining under one roof.
This company serves some of the most demanding industries in existence, including aerospace, defense, space, energy, and performance motorsports, producing complex, mission-critical components that conventional manufacturing simply cannot achieve. With an on-site metallurgy laboratory, full metrology capabilities, CT and X-ray inspection, and the ability to work across a wide range of advanced alloys including aluminum, Inconel, titanium, and cobalt chrome, this company offers its customers a truly end-to-end metal part solution from design through serial production.Holding AS9100D, ISO 9001:2015, and Nadcap accreditations, and operating as an ITAR-registered facility, this company maintains the rigorous quality standards required to support national defense programs, submarine industrial base work, and some of the most technically complex commercial programs in the country.
Why join us?
This is a rare opportunity to plant your flag at a company that is actively rewriting the rules of what metal manufacturing can do. Advanced Manufacturing Engineers here are not running legacy processes on legacy equipment. They are developing next-generation build parameters, solving problems that do not have textbook answers, and contributing to parts that end up in some of the most consequential platforms in aerospace and defense.
The environment is collaborative and fast moving. Decisions get made at the team level, ideas are welcomed from every direction, and the work you do on Monday has a visible impact by Friday. Engineers here operate with meaningful autonomy while being supported by a team of peers who take quality and innovation equally seriously.
This company has invested heavily in talent development, state-of-the-art capital equipment, and digital infrastructure including a fully integrated ERP system and cybersecurity protocols built to DoD standards. The result is a workplace that feels like a high-performing startup with the technical credibility and customer base of an established aerospace supplier.
For engineers who are energized by complexity, motivated by real impact, and ready to work at the edge of what is technically possible, this is the right room to be in.
Job Details
What You Will Do
Evaluate incoming part opportunities for additive manufacturing feasibility, including material selection, equipment selection, design for additive manufacturability (DfAM), and business case development
Generate optimized build files and support structures that maximize part quality, dimensional accuracy, and production throughput
Partner with materials engineers to characterize new and existing alloys through parameter development, mechanical property testing, metallurgical analysis, and heat treatment optimization
Develop and document AM process specifications, technical work instructions, and inspection criteria in compliance with AS9100D and Nadcap quality requirements
Collaborate with CNC machining teams to ensure seamless handoff and process continuity across the additive to subtractive workflow
Identify workflow inefficiencies and drive lean improvement initiatives across the production floor
Participate actively in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective action activities
Support new program launches from initial design review through first article inspection and production release
Communicate project status, technical findings, and risk assessments to senior engineering leadership and customer-facing teams
What You Will Bring
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related ABET-accredited discipline; Master's degree a plus
3 or more years of hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing processes, with direct exposure to laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) strongly preferred
Proficiency in CAD and CAM software relevant to additive and subtractive manufacturing workflows
Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, alloy behavior, and post-processing techniques including heat treatment and surface finishing
Familiarity with metrology tools and inspection methods including CMM, CT scanning, and optical measurement
Experience operating within an AS9100 or similar aerospace quality management system
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously under tight timelines
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders
ITAR eligibility required; experience working in an ITAR-regulated environment is a strong plus
Exposure to DfAM principles, topology optimization, and simulation-driven design is highly desirable
