Position Purpose: Adult Softball Umpires will officiate adult softball games in MPRD men’s, co-recreational, and women’s leagues. Softball programs are offered from March through October
Job Duties
- Officiate adult softball games.
- Work with supervisory staff to assure the accurate setup of the playing field.
- Notifies, instructs, and corrects customer/participant behavior that is deemed inconsistent with athletic facility rules in a fair, timely, and polite manner.
- Assists supervisors, as needed, by helping with tear-down at the end of the night (bases, equipment, etc.)
- Provides excellent customer service and possesses a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional working relationships with others, individually and in a team environment.
- Possesses characteristics of a strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to details.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of slow-pitch softball rules and mechanics.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of USSSA rules and officiating mechanics and signals.
Other Information
- This is not a KPERS covered position. As such, employees in this role will not work 1,000 hours (or more) per year.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work facilities include Twin Oaks Softball Complex, CiCo Field.
- Work is performed: Weeknights, predominantly Monday and Thursday evenings.
- Noise level and activity level will be varied.
- Stands, walks, sits, uses hands, handles, feels, speaks, hears, climbs stairs, pushes, pulls, or lifts up to 20 pounds.
