Part Time Adult Softball Umpire

Part time adult softball league umpire are responsible for officiating scheduled games. Prior experience in officiating adult softball and softball officiating certification is desirable. Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent required. Must be eighteen years of age or older. Knowledge of the rules of the game is required. Must have a high level of independent judgment. Must attend an interview and training session. Ability to work 3 - 8 hours a week. Ability to work flexible schedule, evening work required. Rate of pay is $30.00/hour. Games last approximately 1.5 hours each so per game pay will average $45.00/game. Ability to follow City policies and regulations. Must be able to pass a post offer drug test and background check. Officials are under the direction of the assigned Coordinator and the Recreation Supervisor. All employees are responsible to the Recreation Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as an official during games including calling penalties, keeping time, and keeping score
  • Enforce league rules
  • Uphold department policies and philosophies regarding sportsmanship
  • Aid coaches in educating youth players of rules
  • Complete necessary reports

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversight of players and coaches before, during and after games.



QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic knowledge of the sport being officiated.
  • Ability to read and interpret league/tournament rules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coaches and kids while maintaining a professional demeanor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • CPR, First Aid and Safety Certifications preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals. Ability to computerate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or air-born particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, occasional extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, burn and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
