Administrative Intern - Municipal Utilities Company

As the Administrative Intern for the Administrative Division within Ontario Municipal Utilities Company, your primary duties will be to assist in and complete a wide variety of administrative, technical, and research assignments in support of OMUC. Additionally, Interns will assist with City and Employee Engagement Events. The Administrative Intern performs entry-level analytical work under the mentorship of the Administrative Management Team. As with any internship experience, individuals who are resourceful with a desire and initiative to learn as much as possible from experienced employees will have the greatest benefit from their internship.

The successful candidate will embody the qualities of a "Five Tool Player"- Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator and Public Servant - and the principles of the City's Customer Service Philosophy– Empathy, Respect, and Problem Solving.

The following procedures will apply:

  • The City of Ontario reserves the right, if necessary, to accept only the first one hundred (100) applications from applicants that meet the qualification guidelines below.

Part-time employees may be scheduled to work up to 29 hours per week and are not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans.

  • Assists members of management, professional and technical staff by performing a variety of administrative, technical, and analytical projects and assignments.
  • Conducts research, analyzes data and develops reports to summarize and communicate findings.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, interprets, and presents data and findings.
  • Assists with preparing visual and written content for formal documents (e.g., audit reports, memoranda, policies, etc.).
  • Responds to requests for information and general questions from City staff and the public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
EducationEquivalent to completion of two (2) years of college (60 semester/90 quarter units) with major course work in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

LicensesValid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment are required.
Desirable•Previous experience or knowledge working with with Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher
•Previous experience working with multi-line telephone systems
•Previous experience drafting correspondence including email/memorandums/letters
