Administrative Assistant - Parks

Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work assisting with the maintenance and daily operation of the park, registering visitors into the park computer system, opening and closing park facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Park Manager. Occasional oversight is exercised over assigned staff.

  1. Assists with the daily maintenance and operation of the park.

  2. Opens and closes the office and visitor center.

  3. Register campers in the park system.

  4. Handles user revenue collections.

  5. Provide the public with general park information.

  6. Maintains the park grounds and facilities.

  7. Assists in the oversight and direction of all subordinate park personnel.

  8. Assists with grounds keeping duties.

  9. Assists in public relations operations; provides general county information as well as state and local regulatory rules and laws to the public; answers questions pertaining to all things park related.

  10. Assists the Park Manager in implementing all park directives and policies; enforces County park ordinances.

  11. Operates parks related maintenance equipment.

  12. Administers first aid and if needed acts as a liaison between outside authority and park patrons.

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in parks and recreation, customer service, administrative operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Obtain bloodborne pathogens, first aid, and defibrillator training within 6 months of hire. Valid driver's license in the State of Wisconsin.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of County and department policies and procedures to include emergency and inclement weather policies; ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects; attention to detail and ability to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances; knowledge of maintenance of grounds and facilities; knowledge of park operations and ordinances; ability to operate park maintenance equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to operate and use standard office equipment; knowledge and ability to use standard office and position-specific software; ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other departments and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
