The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant to complete our Program Operations team. The successful applicant will be trained to work in one or more specialized areas related to the administration and servicing of financial aid programs, such as; maintaining borrower accounts, administering garnishment and lien actions, administering the Alaska Performance Scholarship and the Alaska Education Grant, or serving as a liaison to financial aid staff, schools, and other sections within ACPE. They will actively support of the agency's values: Service, Innovation, Empowerment, Quality and Accountability.

The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Minimum Qualifications
OR
One year of advanced-level clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
OR
One year of post-secondary education from an accredited college (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours equals 1 year)
OR
One year of any combination or post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or 4 quarter hours or post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)

This is a fully exempt job class under AS 39.25.110(11).

EDUCATION
If postsecondary education is being used to meet minimum qualifications, you must complete the Education and Training section of the application and attach your transcripts to your application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degrees Obtained field.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN EDUCATION
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

This position is established as a flexibly-staffed position for ranges 13 to 14. Series levels are distinguished by the organization’s business needs and the candidate’s experience, proficiency, judgment, and independence. If hired at range 13, promotion to range 14 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and training plan.
This position is in the exempt service; therefore, it is not covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement. As a result, ACPE may choose to fill this position as soon as a qualified applicant is identified. While ACPE is in the Department of Education and Early Development for administrative support services only, the Commission and its staff are not subject to the direction of the Commissioner of Education and Early Development nor the State Board of Education. Applicants who have any type of educational loan with the Commission must be current in payments to be considered for employment. A routine background check will be conducted on those applicants interviewed and under serious consideration for the position.
