Utah Valley University is always looking for great talent to fill open adjunct instructor positions within the mathematics department! While we are currently not actively filling any openings, please feel free to apply to be considered for a potential opening that might come up in the future.

Summary of Responsibilities

Teach Mathematics courses at lower levels. Possibilities include: introduction to statistics (STAT 1040/1045), college algebra (MATH 1050/1055), trigonometry (MATH 1060), Calculus I (MATH 1210), elementary mathematics education courses (MATH 2010 and MATH 2020), and other courses as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepare instructional materials including course syllabi, instructional aids, and tests.
  • Develop or redesign mathematics curriculum and teaching strategies as needed.
  • Evaluate student learning and utilize accepted assessment strategies in evaluating learning.
  • Engage classes in a student-oriented approach to instruction.
  • Maintain and submit records of student accountability and performance.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an effective teaching program.
  • Provide an open, student-centered, discrimination-free classroom environment.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

  • Graduated from an accredited university with a minimum of an M.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, or other related fields which include coursework of 18 credits graduate-level mathematics/statistics.
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Knowledge of the principles and methodology of subject matter and course content.
  • Skills in assisting counselors and other department heads in maintaining an effective program.
  • Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Ability to develop curriculum.
  • Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty, and others effectively.

    • Part-time: waives 100 percent of tuition and general student fees for up to 3 credit hours or 1 course after 6 consecutive months of employment and a minimum of 480 hours worked (dependents do not qualify)
    • Adjunct: waives 100 percent of tuition and general student fees for one course per semester in which there is an active teaching assignment at the university (dependents do not qualify)
