The Adjunct Instructor, CDL Program position is part-time, non-benefited position responsible for program instruction, student support, safety, equipment inspection, and supporting the overall program operations. Under the general direction of the Outreach and Workforce Development CDL Program Manager, the Instructor performs duties related to delivering the LCCC Non-Credit instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.

This position uses the standard curriculum and approved methodology to ensure student progress in both written coursework and practical driving skills, while providing relearning opportunities through approved strategies as needed. This position requires a strong background and understanding of the curriculum as well as superior training skills. Also, calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work closely and without conflict with both internal and external customers.

Compensation: $33.39/hr.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:– this position isnon-exemptandiseligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).
  • Ensure student understanding of content by preparing and delivering clear objectives and instructional activities that facilitate active learning.
  • Demonstrate safe vehicle operation by applying proper driving techniques, conducting thorough pre-trip inspections, and adhering to safety protocols in various driving conditions.
  • Maintain vehicles in safe operating condition by performing routine inspections, identifying potential mechanical issues, and ensuring timely maintenance in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Complete maintenance repair forms to CDL Program Manager
  • Ensure the program consistently operates in compliance with school policies and procedures, OSHA, FERPA, FMCSA, state law, and applicable rules by implementing and monitoring practices that adhere to these standards and ensuring all records are accurately prepared and updated.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highschool diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Three years of Class A CDL experience and eligibility for coverage by the College’s insurance policy.
  • Current US DOT Medical Certificate
  • Registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse system and able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Motor Vehicle Record reflecting “Licensed” Commercial Status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Management, Transportation Logistics, or a closely related field
  • License and ability to operation a manual 10 or 13 speed transmission
  • Two years of instructional experience in a CDL training program or equivalent
  • Possession of, or willingness to obtain, endorsements for Hazardous Materials, Doubles/Triples, and Tanker
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience in both local, and over-the-road driving
