JOB SUMMARY

KCC is currently seeking an Adjunct Carpentry Instructor. This position will support Klamath Community College, its Apprenticeship programs, and surrounding areas. The Carpentry Instructor must demonstrate—through hands-on training and classroom instruction—proper technique, safety, and detail which are essential skills of sophisticated/skilled construction professionals. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned with industry standards and preparing apprentices for successful completion of program requirements and workforce entry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruct program participants and apprentices in carpentry using approved curriculum
  • Use of NCCER curriculum and supporting training materials is necessary (training provided)
  • Coordinate hands-on training activities including on-site and community-based projects
  • Demonstrate proper tool and equipment use, with an emphasis on safe operation and student safety
  • Provide recommendations for student job placement and assist with apprenticeship training units
  • Continued employment in this position will be contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials as part of Apprenticeship Accreditation
  • Monitor and coach trainees in skill development and workplace readiness
  • Perform various administrative and reporting functions, including student performance profiles and online test proctoring through NCCER testing systems
  • Deliver lab and classroom instruction, including lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and hands-on laboratory instruction

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in program meetings, curriculum development discussions, and industry advisory committees as requested
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts for apprenticeship and workforce programs
  • Maintain instructional materials, lab organization, and equipment readiness
  • Other duties as assigned
  • If assigned, this position may require administrative work on grant-funded program activities and reporting.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

Required:

  • Strong knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, tools, and construction safety standards
  • Ability to teach adult learners with varying skill levels
  • Effective communication and classroom management skills
  • Ability to model and enforce workplace safety standards
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills for student tracking and reporting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Preferred:

  • Experience working with NCCER or similar standardized trade curriculum
  • Familiarity with apprenticeship systems, workforce development, or technical education environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring diverse student populations
  • Experience coordinating with industry partners or employers for workforce placement


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Combination of classroom, lab, and field-based instruction environments
  • Frequent interaction with students, faculty, and industry partners
  • May require evening or weekend hours during peak instructional periods
  • Regular movement between seated, standing, and walking positions
  • Frequent demonstration of physical carpentry tasks in instructional settings
  • May occasionally lift or carry up to 20 lbs
  • Exposure to construction tools, materials, and standard shop/lab environments


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in carpentry, construction, or related skilled trades
  • Demonstrated expertise in carpentry trade skills and safe work practices
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • NCCER Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Previous instructional, mentoring, or training experience in a trade or vocational setting
  • OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience working with apprenticeship programs or workforce development systems
  • Possess or be eligible for certification and/or license, or other credentials required by contract and/or state employment
  • Strong dedication to safety in the workplace, classroom, and labs
  • Must be able to demonstrate competencies in:
    • Hand and Power Tools
    • Construction Drawings
    • Floor Systems
    • Wall Systems
    • Ceiling Joist and Roof Framing
    • Roofing and Siding
    • Drywall Installation and Finishing
    • Trim, Windows, and Door Installation
    • Basic Stair Layout
  • Must have basic computer skills, including database systems, MS Office, and NCCER instructor resources
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills with the ability to inspire and guide future trades professionals
  • Ability to provide clear, effective instruction in carpentry and vocational training environments
  • Able to lift 20 lbs., bend, and work on feet for extended periods
  • High level of demonstrable competency gained through a combination of study, teaching experience, and/or professional performance in the subject area, and/or qualifications set by the licensing or accrediting organization
