Adaptive Summer Day Camp Staff

The City of Bellevue is looking for an energetic positive team to perform the duties of camp counselors. Staff to camper ratio is 2-3 along with the addition of a camp lead. The Highland Center offers 4 weeks of day camp for youth ages 4-15y and one week with young adults 15-21y with intellectual and physical disabilities. Campers go out on field trips three days a week and the other two days remain at Highland Center and participate in a wide variety of camp activities.

Program Dates:Staff Training: June 22 – 26 and Camp program dates: July 6 – August 7, 2026 (No camp on June 29-July 3)

Staff duties include supervision of kids with a wide variety of disabilities. Actively engage kids in daily camp activities from sports, games, park play, swimming, and art.
Staff must assist campers during field trips, during lunch and help them participate while out in the community.
  • Staff must have the ability to quickly make independent decisions to keep kids safe. Staff must be able to retain the skills taught in training regarding behavior modification and prediction of behaviors.
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Camp experience preferred
  • Disability experience preferred
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs
Physical Demands
This position can be physically demanding at times. Staff must be able to multi task in order to keep kids safe who do not have self-preservation skills. The physical requirements for this position are as follows: help transfer kids in and out of wheelchairs with assistance; staff are required to actively watch kids who are swimming; engage kids during field trip activities such as playing at the playground or participating at a bounce house.

This is a seasonal, non-exempt, non-union position.Definition of a Seasonal Employee:
  • Must be pre-approved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation.
  • Regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less.
  • "Customary" means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year.
