Patient Access Representative – Acute Care
We are seeking experienced Patient Access Representatives to support a large healthcare system through an upcoming operational transition. This role will be onsite in an acute care hospital setting and will support patient intake, registration, insurance verification, authorization-related workflows, financial counseling, and patient liability collection.
This is a great opportunity for candidates with hospital registration, emergency department registration, patient access, financial clearance, insurance verification, or front-end revenue cycle experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
- Complete in-person patient intake and registration in a hospital-based setting.
- Verify patient demographics and accurately document information in the EHR.
- Review insurance eligibility, benefits, and payer requirements.
- Support authorization and notification workflows according to payer guidelines.
- Discuss patient financial responsibility, estimates, payment plans, and financial assistance options.
- Collect patient liability when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate documentation to support reimbursement and reduce denials.
- Provide a positive patient experience through strong communication and customer service.
- Work across service areas such as emergency department, inpatient, observation, obstetrics, surgery, imaging, and outpatient services.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1+ year of experience in patient access, patient registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, healthcare customer service, collections, or patient financial services.
- Strong communication, customer service, and multitasking skills.
- Comfortable working onsite in a high-volume hospital environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Strong computer skills, including EHR and common office software experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in acute care, ED registration, inpatient registration, or hospital patient access.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with Cerner/Oracle, Optum360, NextGen, or MS4.
- CRCR or CHAA certification.
