The work unit performs both departmental and statewide financial and accounting functions, supporting State debt issuances, banking services for all departments and agencies of the state, investment accounting and reporting, administration of tax exemption for elderly programs, acts as a fiscal agent for pass through funds, and executes the related administrative functions of reconciliation, reporting, and general account maintenance. Further, the work unit exists to ensure all department financial entries are processed timely and appropriately in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), all State Fiscal Rules, Statewide and Departmental Policies & Procedures, and various Federal Laws & Regulations.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Receiving and approving cash receipt documents.
  • Maintaining the scanning of checks and documents.
  • Reconciling investment cash management reports.
  • Processing returned checks.
  • Maintaining the scanning of checks, cash and other documents.
  • Depositing checks and cash - Working with Loomis for secure transport to bank.
  • Providing copies of cashed checks/warrants to state agencies upon request.
  • Assisting with the Safekeeping Program by retrieving and depositing copies in the vault on site at the Capitol Building.
  • Providing backup support for cashier staff.
  • This position is required to work onsite at the Agency’s State Workplace, the Capitol Building, on a regularly scheduled basis. Frequency of the schedule is a minimum of two days per month between the hours of 8:00a-3:30p, but depending on Agency need, may be one day per week, generally Thursdays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

(2) Two years of accounting experience. This experience must be demonstrated in your application to be considered for employment.

Substitutions:

  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous State accounting experience
  • Cashiering, cash handling or teller experience
  • Experience with CORE (Colorado Operating Resources Engine)
  • Experience with MS Excel or Google Sheets
  • Basic understanding of accounting concepts, including debits and credits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and research etc.

Comparative Analysis:

Colorado Revised Statutes require that state employees are hired and promoted through a comparative analysis. After you meet the minimum qualifications for the position and depending on the number of qualified candidates, the comparative analysis for this position may include a skills test and/or another skills test in combination with the review of your answers to the supplemental questions to measure your job-related skills and competencies.

The top six ranking candidates will then be invited for an interview.
