Job Summary: The Accountant is responsible for supporting both development and general accounting functions, including project-level accounting, month-end close activities, and audit support. This role builds upon development accounting responsibilities by incorporating broader financial reporting, GAAP exposure, and internal control compliance. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting across development projects and corporate accounting functions.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Development & Project Accounting
-Handle accounting responsibilities for assigned construction and development projects, including job cost tracking and reporting.
-Prepare job cost journal entries, maintain project-level ledgers, and reconcile and analyze accounts.
-Manage project contracts, commitments, and budgets within Yardi.
-Complete and coordinate monthly construction loan draw processes; communicate with lenders and internal stakeholders.
-Perform cost analysis on projects, comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts; identify and investigate variances.
General Accounting & Month-End Close
-Assist with month-end close by preparing journal entries (accruals, reclasses, and adjustments) and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
-Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank accounts.
-Support preparation of monthly financial reports and internal management reporting.
-Assist in maintaining fixed asset schedules and tracking capital expenditures.
Audit & Compliance
-Collaborate with external auditors; prepare audit schedules, provide documentation, and respond to audit requests.
-Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and GAAP.
-Comply with and support enforcement of internal controls; identify and recommend process improvements.
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Support
-Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
-Work closely with the Accounting Manager on special projects and process improvements.
Professional & Team Expectations

Summary of Ideal Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in accounting
-CPA licensure is a plus but not required
-2-4 years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in real estate, construction, or property management -or public accounting experience.
-Strong understanding of basic accounting concepts and theories.
-Experience with Yardi or similar accounting systems preferred.
-Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
-Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
-High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
-Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
-Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
