The Accountant II position serves as a vital contributor within the Business Operations team, playing a central role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting organizational compliance. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can effectively collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with program managers, auditors, and grant agencies, ensuring financial activities are executed with precision, transparency, and adherence to applicable regulations.

  • Prepare and submit grant reimbursement requests; maintain all grant & contract-related records; monitor compliance with grant terms, regulations & coordinate submission of all reports; and tracks expenditures on grants.
  • Prepare contracts using templates. Gets approval for draft contracts from the County Attorney’s Office. Maintains all contract related records.
    Prepare reports for program managers, grant agencies, and auditors. Assists staff with obtaining financial information, reporting, and monitoring financial activity.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries into the accounting system.
  • Support the annual department budget preparation and monitoring. Leads and coordinates grant budgets to be submitted to grant agencies.
  • Monitor and reconcile key balance sheet accounts such as accounts receivable and unearned revenue.

What we're looking for:
  • Have good familiarity with accounting systems, journal entry preparation, and report creation.
  • Have skills at gathering data and using pivot tables to make reports and analyze data.
  • Can forecast grant expenditures and communicate significant variances to grant managers and other appropriate staff.
  • Have at least intermediate skill level in spreadsheets, such as Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, IF statements, and conditional formatting.
  • Comfortable communicating with all levels of management, grant agencies and auditors.
  • Uses sound judgement in determining materiality and distinguishing a trivial error and from a significant error in relation to compliance and reporting activities.
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in accounting required.
  • Three (3) years relevant experience required.

Please Note:
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. During the initial six-month probationary period, the individual hired may telework up to one day per week, if business needs allow. After successfully completing the probationary period, the individual may telework up to two days per week, depending on business plans and operational needs.

The Department of Health and Environment has a vaccine requirement. Successful candidates will be required to comply with the vaccine requirements or request a waiver.
