At LA Department of Education, we’re looking for an Accountant 1, 2, or 3 in Fiscal Operations – Appropriation Control to serve as a travel program accountant. The Accountant is primarily responsible for preparation and reconciliation of travel expenditure transactions, fiscal reports, and payable activities ensuring compliance with OSRAP, Office of State Travel, and other control agency policies, and the state public finance law.Candidates with the following skills and experiences are encouraged to apply:The candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, advanced Excel proficiency, experience with LaGov (SAP), and prior knowledge of the State’s travel systems, policies, and regulations.Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; ORSix years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; ORA bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; ORA bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; ORAn advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; ORPossession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. here.Job Duties:As an Accountant, you’ll help create a spirit of team work while functioning as a travel program accountant. In this role, you will:
•Serve as travel liaison and point of contact for agency travel cardholders and approvers.
•Prepare expenditure financial transaction documents and coordinate travel reimbursement activities.
•Audit and review travel card transactions and statements to ensure compliance with the Office of State Travel and Department policies and procedures.
•Reconcile the general ledger for accurate expenditure postings.
•Prepare fiscal reports, which include the compilation and analysis of data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type:Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.Career Progression:This position participates in a Career Progression Group.Work Schedule:Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.Compensation:The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.Accountant 2 (AS-615)Hourly: $23.14 – $40.53
Monthly: $4,010 – $7,025
Annually: $48,131 – $84,302
Accountant 3 (AS-617)
Hourly: $26.50 - $46.41
Monthly: $4,593 - $8,044
