$42.00 per hourBASIC FUNCTION:Reporting to the assigned supervisor and acting as teachers and guides, encourage and create enthusiasm in UB Program learning, intuitive of the needs of high school students, and creatively capture participant awareness while fostering their potential. Instructors act as supplementary support in core study areas such as English Composition and Literature, Math and Science, laboratory science and computer technology, and foreign languages. Instructors provide career guidance, vital to attendee success. Instructors act as high school advisors, develop study plans, monitor attendee study progress, coordinate additional resources and support to ensure that study progress is met, and act as liaisons between the Program and area high schools.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
  • Conduct assigned classes using the program syllabus and curriculum; teach assigned courses and seminars during Saturday Sessions and Summer Components, as assigned.
  • Advise and assist participants and hold regular office hours.
  • Administer pre- and post-tests on the study area; provide assessments and comprehensive reports.
  • Maintain accurate Program records on each participant.
  • Assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of attendees through careful delivery of Program materials and effective teaching methodologies, giving informed critical feedback on assignments, and conducting discussions.
  • Effectively teach and evaluate participants in high school classrooms.
  • Remain current in subject matter areas, multimedia delivery techniques, and other technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to:
  • Teach and evaluate students effectively in the classroom.
  • Learn and develop comprehensive Program reports.
  • Maintain accurate records on each participant.
  • Develop and administer pre- and post-tests on course contents.
  • Implement contemporary teaching methods and technologies.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of:
  • Assessment instruments in the areas of reading/writing and mathematics
  • The diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of high school students

  • Bachelor's Degree with a single- or multiple-subject teaching credential in an assignment-related field
  • Three years' successful secondary or post-secondary teaching experience
