Boulder CountyParks and Open SpaceDepartment is seeking to hire 15 Youth Corps Team Leaders.Team Leader is a temporary, supervisory level classification with the Boulder County Youth Corps summer program. Team Leaders supervise a team of up to 10 adolescents aged 14-17 at a variety of work sites for eight weeks and mentor the development of personal accomplishment, teamwork, and service to the community through outdoor stewardship and conservation projects.

These are hourly, non-benefitedpositions. The Youth Corps season will be June 1st through August 2026. This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm during training, andtypicallyMonday - Thursday 7:30am - 5:00pm and Friday 9:00am - 11am during the season. These positionswill work out of Boulder or Longmont,Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, these positions are non-exempt(eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $24.57Hourly

Second year TL $25.19 hourly
Third year TL $25.81 hourly

Fourth year TLs and the EE Coordinator earn $26.43 hourly

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: After March 23rd, held weekly until filled
  • First Round Interviews: After March 26th, held weekly until filled
  • Second Round Interviews: After April 6th, held weekly until filled
  • Reference Check: After April 6th, held weekly until filled
  1. The Team Leader is responsible for the transportation and management of the team, which includes the following duties: administration, project management, supervision and discipline; and evaluation of Corps members and the Assistant Team Leader; carries out other related duties as assigned by Youth Corps staff
  2. Explains, encourages, and monitors the site-specific work expectations of the Corps members under their supervision on a daily basis
  3. Teaches and trains Corps members in the skills necessary for them to successfully accomplish the site-specific work plans
  4. Works cooperatively with sponsoring agency personnel to develop and monitor site-specific work plans carried out by the Corps members under their supervision
  5. Encourages, trains, and monitors for safety on the work site and is trained to respond with CPR/First Aid in the event of an accident or emergency
  6. Keeps accurate records on each Corps member, which include documentation of hours worked, incident reports, progress reports and evaluations, and logs of all observations and disciplinary actions
  7. Maintains the useful working condition and an accurate inventory of all tools used by the team
  8. Facilitates all team meetings: teaches or leads group activities designed to encourage the development of teamwork, conflict resolution, communication, goal setting, decision making, community service, and environmental education
  9. Works in cooperation with Youth Corps staff to integrate job skills, life skills, and service to the community with the site-specific project work
  10. Performs related work, as required
  11. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

DRIVER'S LICENSE:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old as of first day of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A combination of at least2(two) yearsof college coursework and/or field experience
  • 1 (one) full summerof experience supervising or teaching a comparable size group of middle and/or high school aged youth
  • Parks, open space, trails, or landscaping experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of adolescent behavior and group dynamics
  • Skill in group facilitation and developing rapport with adolescents
  • Ability to lead a team and supervise adolescents in achieving site-specific job objectives
  • Strong commitment to cultural responsiveness and inclusion

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently lifts up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet
  • Occasionally lifts up to 30 lbs. from floor to knuckle
  • Frequently lifts up to 20 lbs. from shoulder to overhead
  • Occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.
  • Frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to floor
  • Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes
  • Occasionally climbs ladder; must be able to stand and balance on ladder
  • Occasionally walks over uneven terrain
  • Performs physically demanding manual labor in a variety of weather conditions

**Alongside the Team Leader positions available, we also have available 2 (two) Rover and 1 (one) Experiential Education Rover positions. Please note that both have additional application requirements.

Rover:We will hire 2 (two) people to serve as roving Team Leaders (Rovers), who will fill in for sick or absent Leaders as needed. The Rovers will start May 25 and finish August 8 to assist the Field Coordinator in preparing for and wrapping up after the season. The Rovers should have familiarity with the use and maintenance of hand tools. Experiential Education Coordinator: We will hire 1 (one) person to serve as an Experiential Education (EE) Coordinator, who will primarily deliver some of the EE lessons and coordinate the season's EE offerings, but who will also fill in for sick or absent Leaders as needed. The EE Rover will start May 11 and finish August 24 to prepare the EE program and assist the Field Coordinator in wrapping up after the season.Check the box in the supplemental questions if you are interested in this position and if you are available for an extended season as described.
