The City of Ankeny has openings in our Parks Department for maintaining the city parks. Starting wage is $18.00/hourHours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday and rotating weekends The Park Maintenance Department will accept applications until the position is filled. The position is a seasonal 10-month position will begin April 1, 2026 and end in late January 2027.Post offer physical, drug screen, and background check required. No employer paid benefits other than IPERS.

Performs manual labor as directed including painting, digging, caulking, cleaning, mowing, hauling, and loading.
Landscapes as directed, including planting and transplanting trees, flowers and shrubs, seeding, laying sod, fertilizing and watering.
Completes general upkeep directives by pulling weeds, applying pesticides and insecticides, trimming trees, and raking.
Assists in removing snow from city parking lots, sidewalks, and skating ponds.
Makes regular rounds to inspect conditions, pick up trash, and remove debris from city parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities, and parking lots.
Assists in basic construction work as needed including concrete and dirt work, carpentry, wiring, and basic plumbing.
Installs and repairs playground equipment.
Cleans and maintains division vehicles, equipment, and tools.
Maintains municipal swimming pool by filling and draining, cleaning, and completing repairs.
Assists in division building maintenance to keep buildings and grounds clean and neat appearing.
Occasionally makes pick up or delivery trips for equipment or supplies.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Shall maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Iowa.
May be required to obtain a CDL license at the City's expense.
May be required to perform duties during off-hour emergencies and weekends.
Periodically lifts heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds and carries for short distances.
May be required to stoop, walk and climb stairs.
Periodically climbs and walks over uneven terrain.
Performs outside work in all kinds of weather conditions.
Operates equipment having varying degrees of noise and vibration.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be insurable.
Must be sighted.
Must be able to hear normal conversation.
Must be able to speak clearly at normal rate of conversation.
Must be able to kneel, squat, climb and walk.
Must be able to step up 12 to 18 inches into employer’s equipment.
Must keep regular and reliable attendance at work.
