This 8-week Registered Nursing (RN) Internship is part of the Texas Internship Initiative Grant, offered in partnership with Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent and Victoria College. Designed for students in their final semester of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program, this internship provides immersive, hands-on clinical experience in a hospital setting under the supervision of experienced registered nurses. This opportunity helps students transition from nursing student to nursing professional by enhancing clinical judgment, communication, and technical nursing skills. Interns will work at least eight hours per week, depending on department needs.

To participate, students must meet Texas Internship Initiative Grant eligibility criteria. Selected interns will receive a stipend from Victoria College to support transportation, childcare, and tuition/fees. Student interns will be in unpaid internship positions for Employer and will not be paid by Employer or considered employees of Employer.Duties include, but are not limitedto the following:
  1. Assist with comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, and documentation;
  2. Participate in medication administration and IV therapy undersupervision;
  3. Observe and support complex nursing interventions, such as wound care, catheterization, and telemetry monitoring;
  4. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient education activities;
  5. Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and HIPAA protocols;
  6. Assist in reviewing and updating patient care records in the electronic health record (EHR) system;
  7. Shadow and assist RNs in patient advocacy, discharge planning, and care coordination;
  8. Other duties as assigned by the preceptor or nursing supervisor.

INTERN LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Apply advanced clinical knowledge in a real-world environment.
  2. Build confidence in clinical decision-making and critical thinking.
  3. Strengthen technical nursing skills such as IV therapy, medication administration, and documentation.
  4. Learn to function effectively within a multidisciplinary care team.
  5. Develop professional communication and leadership skills.
  6. Master tasks and skills specific to this internship/Employer setting. By the end of the internship, the student nurse will accurately perform basic nursing skills (vital signs, hygiene care, safe patient transfers) with minimal supervision, demonstrating correct technique in 90% of opportunities.
  1. Currently enrolled in the final semester of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program at Victoria College.
  2. Strong knowledge of nursing fundamentals, pharmacology, and care protocols.
  3. Effective communication, empathy, and professionalism in clinical settings.
  4. Ability to use electronic health records and follow detailed procedures.
  5. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  6. Selected interns are required to obtain liability insurance prior to their start date. Additional information will be provided to selected students.

GRANT ELIGIBILITY:
To qualify for this grant funded internship opportunity, students must provide the following completed forms which will be sent after the application is received:

The intern must be able to perform physical tasks typical of a hospital environment, including standing, walking, and assisting patients for extended periods. This role may require lifting or repositioning patients and handling medical equipment. Interns must have the dexterity to perform clinical tasks and respond quickly to patient needs or emergencies. The ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in a fast-paced clinical setting is required.
