Under general supervision and with a broad understanding of the Building Safety Division’s operations, this position serves as a primary point of contact at the front counter—providing exceptional customer service, answering inquiries, and offering clear guidance to contractors, residents, and other customers.
Using a solid foundation in architecture or professional engineering principles, along with knowledge of basic building codes and related laws and regulations, the Plans Examiner I reviews construction documents for new builds, alterations, and renovations. This includes evaluating commercial, residential, and private construction plans for compliance with applicable codes and requirements.

Please review the full job description here!Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in residential building code, plan review or building inspection. Requires International Code Council (ICC) Residential Plans Examiner or must be able to obtain within 18 months from date of hire. An equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. A valid driver’s license is required.
