Duties & Responsibilities:


The Nursing Learning Resource Center instructor is the coordinator of the learning resource center and Skills lab at the Manono Campus in Hilo, Hawaii. They are responsible for coordinating with clinical sites regarding student compliance with health requirements including ensuring students have had physicals, appropriate immunizations, and or titers, and are generally “fit for service.” The NLRC instructor also ensures the students obtain drug testing, and fingerprinting and supervise the entry of all results of health screenings and requirements into Castle branch or any currently used repository for such information.


  1. Maintaining inventory, assisting with repair, maintenance, and purchasing of equipment, supplies, and learning resources. This includes developing and presenting simulations on clinical days (typically, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with some possible weekend or night hours), and checking and maintaining the mannequins.
  2. Ensuring compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  3. Working closely with faculty to instruct students through supervision of skills practice, medium and high fidelity patient simulation, computer mediated instructions (such as ATI), and presentations.
  4. Working closely with students needing extra assistance, or that are struggling and help to remediate those students to increase success in the nursing program.
  5. Assisting with student recruitment and retention as required.
  6. Tracking NLRC usage and obtaining student feedback. Also working with student tutors to ensure consistency of instruction and student support.
  7. Working with students on teaching assignments for both clinical and tactic learning as needed.
  8. Assisting with accreditation responsibilities, including meetings and discussions regarding course objectives and student learning outcomes along with end of learning program outcomes.
  9. Demonstrating a commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential.

Related work activities include but are not limited to:

  1. Maintaining office hours for academic advising of students, assisting in campus related student activities, participating in department, college, and community services as appropriate.
  2. Attend all nursing faculty meetings, student remediation and documentation of remediation plan.
  3. Performing other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications


  1. Masters degree in nursing with at least one year of hospital experience in the area of teaching responsibility within the last five years.
  2. Registered nurse eligible for Hawaii state license effective by employment date.



Desirable Qualifications


  1. Experience in teaching, simulation, and/or clinical instruction.
  2. Education in curriculum development, evaluation, teaching methods, or related experience.
  3. Evidence of successful teaching in the college setting.
