Youth Program Aide (Seasonal)


The Town’s Summer Camp Program is a seasonal enrichment program for children and youth ages 6-12 years old. Youth receive social skills training and development, work with arts and crafts, understand the fundamentals of teamwork and working in groups, as well as physical fitness in an environment where s/he can safely explore, discover, create and grow. This Summer Camp Program conducts a variety of recreational activities by leading children in games, educational and recreational field trips, athletics, art, etc.


The seasonal Youth Program Aide will be primarily responsible for assisting group leaders in supervising groups of summer camp program participants while maintaining and upholding the mission and values of the Town of Cutler Bay, working with other members of the Summer Camp Program team to support student’s social and emotional development.


Work hours are typically from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM(EST), Monday - Friday. Additional hours may be required for Town-sponsored special events which may include some weekends and holidays.


Reports to:Youth Program Administrator

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in implementing daily program activities for all youth enrolled in the Town’s Youth Program.
  • Provide a structured, enjoyable learning experience for all youth.
  • Provide student instruction/support in a small group setting.
  • Participate in meetings with the park staff as needed to support the program and student success.
  • Comply with all safety and other regularity and/or funder requirements.
  • Performs general maintenance and clean up duties at the park such as: emptying trash and ash tray bins, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors, wiping down tables and chairs and other furnishings, replenishing toilet paper and hand towels, cleaning concession area, restrooms, and ball fields.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Youth Program Administrator and/or Parks & Recreation Director.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience is required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work with school age children.
  • Must demonstrate patience and the ability to work in an inclusionary learning environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or Undergraduate credit level equivalent, bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field.

Requirements:

  • Must be a non-smoker.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must complete a background investigation which includes obtaining a level ll clearance (this includes fingerprinting and a national criminal history search).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to establish good customer relations. This includes the ability to deal with people effectively, courteously, and enthusiastically.
  • Requires limited knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment typically used in recreational work and clean up duties.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple, oral, and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic rules of safety, and ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to work independently, and complete daily tasks according to work schedule.
  • Ability to get along with others and work effectively with the public and fellow workers.
  • Requires the ability to maintain high ethical and moral standards.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to thirty (30) pounds to shoulder height. Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping). Demonstrate normal depth perception. Sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.

Works in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
