Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for an X-Ray Tech (Level I) to join our Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group in Hampton, Virginia. The available shift hours are 1st shift, M-F 6am-2pm and 2nd shift, M-F 2pm-10pm. Training is 1st shift, M-F 6am-2pm.

New Hire Starting Rate: $24.58 p/hr.; After 6 months: $27.31 p/hr.

This position will receive an hourly “shift premium” of $1.00 p/hr. while assigned to an off shift.

Job Summary: The X-Ray Tech (Level I) will radiograph and inspect castings, sample parts, and structural members for flaws, cracks, or presence of foreign materials and process related deviations. 

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:

  • Must possess the skills and knowledge to process parts, document results, and perform equipment standardization in accordance with approved work instructions.
  • Must possess the skills and knowledge to carry out any necessary preparation of parts before or after X-Ray inspection in accordance with approved work instructions.
  • Must possess the skills and knowledge to conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standards and customer requirements.
  • Must possess the skills and knowledge to advance into and successfully achieve Level II certification.
  • Must be receiving of guidance or supervision from a certified Level II or Level III.
  • Shall not accept or reject evaluations unless specified in writing and approved by the Level III.
  • Operates X-Ray and film processing equipment.
  • Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Internal certification with rectification every five years is required.
  • Ability to read, write, and apply concepts and use of basic math.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • A skills assessment will be administered to internal candidates to verify aptitude in the skills required to perform x-ray inspection.

Equipment Used: Various radiographic imaging equipment, 320 MEV, 450 MEV, and Linatron Units.
