Job Title: Welding Inspector

Job Description

This position is primarily field-based and focuses on inspecting active construction projects that require technical knowledge, certifications, and prior inspection or testing experience. The Construction Inspector is responsible for verifying that construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes. Projects may involve multiple inspection areas or a specific specialty such as concrete, structural steel, masonry, fireproofing, or related materials. Work includes hands-on site observations, measurements, and field testing. Inspectors are expected to document results, report findings to project leadership, and support the project team in resolving quality-related issues while maintaining strict safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections and material testing in accordance with established procedures and project requirements.
  • Review and understand construction drawings, technical specifications, and code criteria.
  • Observe construction operations and evaluate workmanship and materials for compliance.
  • Record inspection results and testing data in clear, well-organized reports.
  • Review data for accuracy prior to submitting to the Project Manager.
  • Communicate observations, deficiencies, and results to project staff as directed.
  • Prepare draft inspection reports for review by staff.
  • Support inspectors during complex or large-scale inspections.
  • Maintain inspection and testing equipment, including calibration records.
  • Operate a company vehicle to travel between job sites.
  • Follow all company and site-specific safety policies, including job hazard analysis and pre-task planning.
  • Identify and report safety concerns to management.
  • Uphold quality control standards across all assigned work.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in welding inspection, structural inspection, and welding inspection.
  • AWS certification and familiarity with structural welding.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–4 years of experience in an engineering technician, inspection, or materials testing role.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Prior construction inspection experience preferred.
  • Completion of company-required safety training.
  • Preferred certifications include:
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • NICET Level II (Construction Materials or Geotechnical disciplines)
    • ICC certifications (Structural Steel, Concrete, Masonry, Fireproofing, etc.)
    • ASNT Level II (VT, MT, PT, RT, UT)
  • Additional relevant materials testing or inspection certifications may be accepted based on experience and departmental approval.

Work Environment

This role requires fieldwork at active construction sites, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions and lifting up to 50 lbs. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
