Job Title: Welder and Fitter

Job Description

The Welder and Fitter will fit, fabricate, and weld metal components and assemblies according to drawings and specifications for a variety of structural projects. This role involves performing MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, reading and interpreting blueprints and weld symbols, and working with pipe, structural steel, and plate materials. The position requires strong fabrication skills, consistent adherence to safety and quality standards, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a field-based team that travels frequently to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Fit, fabricate, and weld metal components and assemblies in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Perform welding using MIG, TIG, and Stick processes based on project needs and material types.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and weld symbols to plan and execute work accurately.
  • Measure, cut, tack, and assemble materials including pipe, structural steel, and plate to build frames and structures.
  • Perform structural steel fabrication and erection tasks, including steel stud framing and steel stud erecting as required.
  • Ensure weld quality meets company and industry standards, performing rework when necessary to maintain quality.
  • Operate fabrication tools such as grinders, torches, saws, and layout tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times, particularly in outdoor and field environments.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and best practices while working with welding equipment and on construction sites.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
  • Assist with installation and field work on various project sites, including travel to different locations.
  • Collaborate with a field team of 5–8 workers and a team lead to coordinate tasks and ensure project progress.
  • Consistently arrive on time to job sites, demonstrate self-reliance, and manage tasks with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

This is a primarily field-based, outdoor role with local travel required. Typical shifts run Monday through Friday for 8–10 hours per day. Projects are typically located in the Southern Wisconsin area, with potential assignments supporting shops and projects in Minnesota and Iowa. Work is performed on-site at various project locations, and team sizes generally range from 5 to 8 workers plus a team lead. Tools needed for the job are provided. The position involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, so you must be comfortable working in the elements and dressing appropriately for outdoor construction and welding environments.

This is a Permanent position based out of Cottage Grove, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00/hr.
