Job Title: Welder / Fabricator (Job Shop)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator to join our job shop team. This role focuses on custom fabrication, repair, and modification of metal components and assemblies rather than high‑volume production. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on problem solver who can interpret drawings, fit and fabricate parts, and produce high‑quality welds that meet tight tolerances and customer specifications.

Our shop supports a variety of industries including heavy industrial, power generation, rotating equipment, structural, and custom machinery. Every day brings different work, so adaptability and strong trade fundamentals are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform repair, refurbishment, and modification of existing parts and equipment
  • Weld using processes such as MIG, TIG, and Stick (process mix depends on job requirements)
  • Prepare material by cutting, grinding, beveling, and fitting prior to welding
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications
  • Measure and inspect parts using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other precision tools
  • Perform layout, tack‑up, and final welds to dimensional and quality standards
  • Assist with fabrication tasks such as drilling, tapping, torch cutting, and forming
  • Conduct visual weld inspections and correct defects as needed
  • Work closely with machinists, mechanics, and other shop personnel to complete jobs
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all shop safety procedures and quality requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of experience as a Welder / Fabricator in a job shop or repair environment
  • Strong experience with custom fabrication and non‑production work
  • Ability to weld in multiple positions (flat, vertical, horizontal, overhead)
  • Experience working with carbon steel; stainless and alloy experience is a plus
  • Solid blueprint reading and layout skills
  • Good understanding of fabrication methods, joint prep, and weld sequencing
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot fit‑up or fabrication challenges
  • Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs and work in an industrial environment
  • Must provide own basic hand tools and steel‑toe boots (if applicable)

Preferred (Not Required)

  • AWS welding certifications
  • Experience with heavy equipment, rotating equipment, or industrial repairs
  • Basic machining or mechanical assembly experience
  • Forklift, overhead crane, or rigging experience

Work Environment

  • Indoor job shop / industrial fabrication environment
  • Exposure to heat, sparks, noise, and heavy materials
  • Mix of standing, bending, lifting, and working in welding positions
  • Custom, one‑off, and short‑run jobs rather than repetitive production work

Why Join Us

  • Skill‑focused environment where craftsmanship matters
  • Opportunity to work on complex, high‑value projects
  • Stable, long‑term employment in an essential industrial trade
