The Volunteer Services Manager provides strategic leadership for the organization-wide volunteer program at Mercer Street Friends, ensuring it continues to operate effectively, grow strategically, and align with organizational priorities.


A key priority is continuing to enhance the volunteer experience through consistent onboarding, communication, engagement, and recognition practices that support strong retention and long-term commitment. The role also ensures volunteer contributions are effectively tracked and translated into meaningful data for grant reporting, impact reporting, and organizational storytelling. The Volunteer Services Manager supervises the Volunteer Services Coordinator who oversees day-to-day volunteer operations, primarily within the food bank.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Program Optimization: Strengthen and enhance a strong, established volunteer program
  • Partnership: Maintain and grow corporate, non-profit, school and other community volunteer relationships
  • Volunteer Experience: Strengthen onboarding, engagement, communication, and recognition
  • Data & Impact: Use volunteer metrics for grants, reporting, and storytelling
  • Team Leadership: Supervise the Volunteer Services Coordinator (VSC)


Overall, this is a strategic role focused on elevating an existing volunteer program, deepening partnerships, strengthening volunteer experience, and leveraging data to demonstrate impact.


Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • At least three years of volunteer management experience or transferable experience
  • Valid driver’s license / Reliable transportation
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Creative, outgoing, and passionate about engaging volunteers and building community
  • Comfortable leveraging technology to improve systems, communication, and the volunteer experience
