Overview

Oversees the actuarial and investment monitoring, modeling, projection, analysis and evaluation of all life insurance brands from a distribution viewpoint, balancing profitability with revenue and asset growth. Analyzes brand profitability and experience/assumption deviations for all life products and recommends measures to improve. Analyzes opportunities that are available to each brand and makes appropriate recommendations using actuarial tools. Oversees the life product development functions for the independent distribution brands to ensure life product installations meet profitability, competitive and plan standards. Provides leadership and guidance in product management, design and pricing for all life products of the independent distribution brands.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Maintains a product plan for all life products of each independent distribution brand, encompassing development timelines, management targets and retirement triggers.
  • Oversees the life product development function, providing analysis and other support to ensure product installations meet profitability, competitive and plan standards.
  • Monitors, assesses and evaluates strategic life product initiatives implemented by W&S brands (except Gerber), while proactively making recommendations from competitive analysis.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between life brands and the Enterprise CMO and other enterprise management on life product matters affecting life (non-Gerber) distribution
  • Represents life product development and actively participates in the Enterprise Risk Management process.
  • Monitors and communicates actual Value of New Business (VNB) results compared to plan for all brands and recommends enhancements to this profitability measure, while balancing with revenue and asset growth expectations.
  • Monitors and analyzes various modeling assumptions for all brands, ensuring consistency where appropriate and creating forecasts for unlocking or recommendations for change to revert experience to planned assumptions.
  • Leads the investment and asset portfolio management function from a distribution viewpoint, recommending enhancements to support sales growth in profitable and competitive products, supporting strategic plans.
  • Proactively provides advice, guidance, analysis and direction to Western & Southern's CMO and other senior distribution management on all actuarial matters affecting distribution.
  • Designs and monitors benchmarks for Western & Southern's life product results internally by brand, line of business and individual product, and externally with industry peers and competitors.
  • Assists CFO, presidents, business heads of subsidiaries and W&SFG senior management with special requests to help manage and grow the life business. Works closely with various levels of management to develop and implement strategic business plans, unique analyses and measurements.

  • Provides direction to and development of associates through daily coaching, the administration of the Performance Management Model, and the creation and implementation of development plans. Recruits, hires, trains and develops staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Mathematics or actuarial science - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred
  • Demonstrated substantial life insurance and financial services industry financial reporting experience. - Required
  • Proven senior management experience in a life insurance company with responsibility for actuarial and/or accounting functions. - Required
  • Proven experience in developing and managing strategic business plans and budgets. - Required
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects/assignments simultaneously, and completing assignments accurately and on a timely basis. - Required
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. - Required
  • Demonstrated in-depth project management experience in planning, executing and maintaining a project from start to finish. - Required
  • Proven examples from work experience on identifying complex problems, quantifying the problems and providing creative resolutions to the problem. - Required
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate and communicate with all levels of management and staff. - Required
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) Upon Hire - Required

Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.

  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
